Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Helping you catch the thought before it becomes a spiral.
Do your thoughts feel impossible to slow down?
GROWING UP YOU WERE TAUGHT TO STAY STRONG, BE GRATEFUL, AND KEEP GOING… NO MATTER WHAT WAS HAPPENING INSIDE OF YOU.
So now, when racing thoughts show up, your instinct may be to push your feelings down, explain them away, or criticize yourself for having them in the first place.
Because no one taught you how to notice the thoughts driving those feelings.
No one asked, "What's coming up for you right now?"
You never had the chance to understand that your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviors all influence one another.
Ly Franshaua Pipkins, Psy.D. specializes in mindful Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) providing support that helps you recognize these patterns and change your response in ways that create more flexibility, confidence, and emotional balance.
CBT helps you understand the connections between thoughts and behaviors so you can create lasting change.
CBT can help you:
Better understand the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors
Recognize patterns that have been keeping you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck
Develop greater awareness of automatic thoughts without becoming consumed by them
Integrate your thoughts and emotions rather than feeling pulled in different directions
Respond to difficult situations with greater flexibility instead of reacting on autopilot
Feel more grounded when anxiety, self-doubt, or uncertainty arise
Reduce the influence of self-critical thinking and cultivate a more compassionate inner dialogue
Build confidence making decisions without getting caught in cycles of overthinking
Approach challenges with greater clarity, perspective, and emotional balance
Communicate your needs more effectively in relationships, at work, and with family
Set boundaries from a place of confidence rather than guilt or obligation
Feel more present in your daily life instead of being pulled into worry about what might happen next
Develop practical skills that support lasting emotional resilience
HOW IT WORKS
What we work on during session.
Our thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviors are all connected. Sometimes, after stressful or painful experiences, we develop patterns of thinking that once helped us cope but now contribute to anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, or feeling stuck. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps bring these patterns into awareness so they no longer operate automatically.
Together, we'll identify the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that are maintaining your distress. We'll explore how they developed, examine whether they continue to serve you, and practice new ways of responding that are more balanced, flexible, and compassionate. Rather than simply reacting to anxious thoughts, you'll learn how to step back and choose responses that better reflect your values and goals.
Between sessions, you may practice new skills in your everyday life. These exercises are designed to help you apply what you're learning in real-world situations, gradually building confidence and creating lasting change. Therapy is collaborative, and we'll move at a pace that feels supportive and manageable for you.
In addition to CBT, I'll provide nervous system-informed support that helps you move beyond insight alone. We will integrate mindfulness, self-compassion, and other complementary approaches to support deep and lasting healing. My goal is not simply to help you think differently, but to help you experience greater emotional flexibility, resilience, and well-being.
Dr. Pipkins provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) online throughout California and in person on Saturdays in Oakland's Piedmont Avenue neighborhood.
WHY I DO THIS WORK
I specialize in mindful brain and body-based therapies because of the positive—and often more immediate—changes I saw in my clients.
When insight alone was not enough, deeper shifts began when we worked directly with the nervous system.
If this resonates with you, I invite you to reach out for a consultation.
Healing doesn’t have to stay stuck in insight alone.
Experience the shift that becomes possible when your nervous system finally feels safe enough to change.
