***FEE MINDSET ***
***FOR BLACK WOMEN THERAPISTS ***
If you've been in business for a year or two and your motivation is low because your private practice alone is not earning enough to support the quality of life you desire, you might be thinking that you need to get more certifications before you can boost your income with clients who will pay more.
However, lack of certifications is not usually the real problem.
The real problem you need to address is that you actually have a thought/belief that "I should be further along by now."
This thought has energetically thrown you off course, because your brain is interpreting it as you're failing or being left behind…
Meaning that for example, you are thinking that by now you should have created a life where you could comfortably afford to work for yourself without answering to anyone, but at the moment, that’s not been your reality.
I used to have the I’m “behind” belief too.
And I spent so much time comparing myself with others, strategizing and over-analyzing my strategies, that I wasn’t taking real actions that had worked before to reach my next big income goal.
And even when I did take action, it was from a place of desperation because the actions I was taking were rooted in lack.
Especially when I looked around and saw that:
"Brenda completed her online signature course last week!"
"Karen just got featured on KTVU!"
"Mary just had a sold out Self Healing retreat to Jamaica!”
Whenever I saw people around me succeeding and doing the things that I wanted to do, my brain would go like…..”Yup! That’s the proof! You’re being left behind!”
And I would be left feeling empty and frustrated that I wasn’t thriving like the people I was seeing in my newsfeed.
Here’s what I learned during those turbulent years:
The energy you bring to your business is super important,
And when you’re thrown off course, you begin to feel powerless and disempowered, which then affects the actions you take and how you show up in your business.
So when you allow yourself to indulge in the thought that you should be at a different place than where you currently are -
You engage in a fight with reality.
And unfortunately, when you fight with reality, you can’t win!
Instead, your creativity and momentum gets stifled.
You lose the passion and excitement you once had for your business.
As a result, you question your credibility and you get into the rut of thinking that your same skills that have been helping clients to improve for years are the problem.
Yes, it’s important to keep up your CEUs, but you’ve likely been undervaluing your existing skills from the start of your opening your private practice.
The problem is truly internal - the way you're feeling about yourself because of the way you're thinking - “I should be further along by now.”
The first shift that needs to happen to get you back on course is ACCEPTANCE.
Accept that you're exactly where you need to be and that everything that has happened in the past, has happened FOR you and not against you.
How do we know that you're exactly where you need to be?
Because that's where you are and no amount of 'shoulds' can change that.
Accepting where you are is a decision that you make and with acceptance comes grace, love and compassion for yourself.
Accept the fact that “doing your best” can vary from time to time depending on your circumstances and that you can't be perfect all the time because you’re human.
Yes, you want things to be different in the future, but in this very present moment,
You need to focus on now and by doing that, you will be able to notice the blessings currently around you which will support you to start shifting your energy from feeling like you’re being left behind to feeling empowered.
Secondly, stop making the fact that you’re not where you would have loved to be, mean anything negative about you.
Yes, it’s true that you haven’t reached your next big financial goal, like you thought you would by now….
Yes, it’s true that your clients are not paying the rates that you hoped for,
But that does not mean that you’re incapable or that your already 19+ years of education and life experience aren't good enough.
Realize that choosing to beat yourself up with all that negative self talk is a choice you’re making.
Instead of taking things personally and making things mean something negative about you, you have the power within you to choose to look at it from a different perspective and ask yourself questions like:
“What are the lessons in this FOR me?”
“What can I do differently with what I have right now?”
And from that place you can review your motivation and desire to put yourself out there, in other words market your current skills.
And let me just add this here - ANY (I repeat ANY) marketing strategy can work IF you are aligned with it energetically.
You probably don’t need to make any huge changes.
In addition to teaching my clients simple strategies that can help them find clients who are glad to pay now,
I also help them come to an acceptance of where they are so that they can shift their energy and take action from an empowered place to go from 20 clients to 10 or less at $200 to $350 an hour. I support you in this internal/emotional work in my 3 month coaching container.
If you are interested in finding out more, just pop me a DM and we’ll have a chat to see if you are a good fit and if so, we can get started as soon as next week.
